Climate Action Without Nuclear

Climate Action without Nuclear Power is a Must

Our actions to protect and restore the world’s climate must proceed with haste, but without exchanging one ill for another.  We must create an energy future that is resilient, sustainable, equitable, and honors our fragile environment.  Nuclear power is not the answer to climate change.  It is unsafe, unhealthy, climate actions without nuclear expensive, unreliable, and a barrier to a clean, equitable, and resilient energy future.

8 Reasons Why Climate Action without Nuclear Power

Costly – Nuclear power plants are costly and dependent on taxpayer subsidies and government loan guarantees. Dollars are better spent on Energy Efficiency and Renewables.

Unproven technology – Nuclear power plants are costly and dependent on taxpayer subsidies and government loan guarantees. Dollars are better spent on Energy Efficiency and Renewables.

Pollution Source – Nuclear power plants’ operations depend on a dirty nuclear fuel cycle.  From uranium mining to reactor operation to long-lived highly radioactive waste, nuclear power is anything but clean.

Inherently Risk – Nuclear power plants’ operations depend on a dirty nuclear fuel cycle.  From uranium mining to reactor operation to long-lived highly radioactive waste, nuclear power is anything but clean.

Security Risk – Nuclear power plants are dangerous targets for terrorists and in war.  Hackers have already penetrated the electric grid and power plants, making a risky industry even more unsafe.

Environmental Justice – Indigenous peoples and front-line communities have already been harmed by the nuclear fuel cycle; it’s time to repair the damage, not make it worse.

Energy Equity – People who are least able to pay energy bills need to have access to energy efficiency and renewables.  Costly nuclear power will add to the financial burden of those least able to afford it.

Weapons Proliferation – New nuclear reactors will use highly enriched uranium fuel that will be easier to turn into weapons grade material that could be used by terrorists.
